Note:
This study aims at to investigate on the role of some oxygenated synthetic fuels in a conventional technology DI diesel engine, as regard the pollutants formation.
The experimental technique adopted to investigate the pollutant formation is the two colours pyrometry. The use of this technique permitted a comparison between evolution of soot volumic fraction burning the different fuels. The experimental tests have demonstrated that the oxygen content of the fuel has a strong influence on soot formation process. Simultaneously, due to a reduction of the Nox, CH and CO emissions, and notwithstanding the high oxygen content also the aldehydes emissions are relatively low.
