Collana: CA - 55 - Bari Matera 2000

Note:
In the present paper, a non-conventional refrigerating system called “thermogravimetric refrigerating plant” has been analysed and its geometrical characteristics and performances have been reported for a refrigerating power WR = 500 kW. In particular, the corresponding trends of the plant height Z, two-phase duct diameter DT-PC, efficiency e and mechanical power WP requested by the plant, have been drawn. The carrier fluid is demineralized water while the most promising working fluids are some PF and HFC. It is worth noticing that in a thermogravimetric system, a mechanical pump instead of the conventional compressor, is needed. That will induce lower maintenance costs and it also offers advantages of reduced vibrations and noise level. Different geometrical configurations and plant performances are obtained according to the different type of fluids. In the present work the maximum cycle temperature is fixed (20 °C) and the minimum temperature varies in the range (0, -20 °C).
