Note:
Low-enthalpy water dominant fields represent a high potential resource. The most efficient and cost-effective way to exploit this type of reservoir is based on the use of binary cycles. Purpose of this work has been to develop and design optimized cycles to be applied to the exploitation of water dominant geothermal resources acquired by ENEL in Western US, expected to add about 150 MW of electric capacity in the next four years. In particular Rankine cycles using Isopentane, Isobutane and some refrigerants as working fluids for geothermal resources at temperature between 100°C and 200°C have been optimized to maximise overall conversion efficiency and to minimize plant cost.
