Note:
As part of the Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Complex in Al-Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia, Macchi (an Italian company) has supplied two crude oil fired boilers, each one rated at 350 t/h, 47 barg, 400°C steam production. Together with the Termokimik Corporation, Macchi has also provided two Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) for the treatment of flue gas quality. Thanks to these AQCS systems, the treated flue gas complies with the limits imposed by the Royal Commission for emission of pollutants into the atmosphere. In short, each system is composed of : - A Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR) for NOx removal, equipped with a liquid anhydrous ammonia evaporation system; - An Electrostatic precipitator (ESP) for fly ash and particle removal; - A Wet flue gas desulphurization (WFGD) system, based on limestone-gypsum technology, for SO2 removal. - All interconnecting flue gas ducts, including the wet stack. The Termokimik Corporation has also supplied the following equipment common to both lines: - Ash handling system with storage silo - Limestone storage, handling and preparation equipment (wet ball mill system) - Gypsum dewatering system, based on hydrocyclone and vacuum belt filters; a handling and stockpile conveyor system with an enclosed dome-style gypsum storage building. - Structural steel building with covering panels for all WFGD equipment In addition to the stringent technological aspects, the client’s primary requirement expressed during the bidding stage – that of limiting the erection time in the field - must be emphasized. These requirements have been fulfilled with high Shop Modularization and with the pre-assembly of equipment. The most evident example of the implementation of these factors are shown in the following photos which display the sea shipment of two fully-constructed SO2 absorbers from Italy, each with a diameter of around 7 meters and a height of almost 26 meters.
