Note:
In this paper we report the results of experimental tests carried out to study the effect of electrochromic glazing on discomfort glare from windows. The research is performed by a small-scale test cell equipped with a small-size electrochromic glazing prototype with about 7% − 70% visible transmittance dynamic range. The performance of the device is investigated under real sky conditions as a function of time, solar radiation intensity, test cell orientation and switching strategies (static or dynamic). Results show that electrochromic glazing can be very effective in reducing discomfort glare caused by high window brightness originating from diffuse skylight. Furthermore, this glare reduction can be realized in most situations without compromising much of the available daylight so without necessarily increasing the need for artificial lighting.
