Note:
Catalytic oxidative steam reforming of hydrocarbons to H2 rich reformate can be considered as one of the most promising process for the realization of a compact and efficient fuel processor for fuel cell systems. Catalysts formulation and geometries,
for the selected process, are under continuous development in order to optimize the systems performance.
Microchannel reactors, foam and structured catalysts have been proposed as attractive alternatives to traditional catalytic packed bed reactor due to their compact size and their improved heat and mass transfer properties.
This study addresses the development of a structured catalysts (1.13wt% Pt/CeO2) with circular concentric design and different channels geometry. The catalytic tests in propane oxidative steam reforming conditions have confirmed “the proof of the concept”: good performance has been obtain at higher gas hourly space velocity respect to the same Pt/CeO2 sample in pellets form.
