Note:
This paper concerns the development of a duct burner for low heat value, and low supply pressure, hydrogen mixtures, such as most of the syngas fuel produced in refinery plants. Two innovative elements guarantee a significant premixing, and ensure the thermal protection of the after-burner by means of film cooling and impingement. This feature allows employing very light bent sheets, which in turn allow employing larger supply pipes and customizing the burner design to different applications. The two innovative elements also allow anchoring the flame in two separate points, with the advantage of guaranteeing stable working conditions even below 10% of the maximum load. Thanks to premixing, low contents of CO and NOx emissions have been measured both on the test bench and on the full-size plant.
