Two different approaches are proposed to simulate the hydrodynamics of Diesel Particulate Filter.
Simulations of the channel-scale geometry, performed by the open-source CFD code Kiva3V have been compared with results coming from the simulations of full-scale catalyzed clean filter carried out by OpenFOAM; effects of non-uniform distribution of the flow at the inlet cone of the device are analyzed on a EX-80 2.66x4.5100/17 filter. Further, simulations of the channel-scale geometry have been used for a detailed
investigation of the existing interaction between the motion of soot particles and the internal flow field in filter channels.
