Note:
In recent international standards, simplified methods are supplied to evaluate the effects of different intermittency strategies on the energy needs of buildings. Anyway, these methods seem not to be adequately investigated in the international literature, for the difficulty to model highly dynamic effects in quasi-steady state models in intermittent operation.
In the first part of the paper an overview of different simplified methods is presented. In the second part the effect of different intermittency strategies is investigated through a detailed numerical simulation realised on some case studies: different constructive options and different typical intermittent patterns have been considered for a reference office building already analysed in previous international research projects.
