Note:
The purpose of this study is the technical and economical evaluation of the adoption of a solar cooling system based on the coupling of a reversible water ammonia absorption heat pump with parabolic solar collectors. The study was made by means of dynamic simulations conducted with Trnsys simulation code. The same office building of around 300 m2 was simulated in the climates of Milan, Rome and Palermo by means of TRY meteorological data. The model was detailed enough in order to simulate realistic user profiles: presence, lights and other electric appliances. Because a reversible heat pump was adopted, it was possible to conceive the system as working all year long, and also the technical economical evaluations were conducted on the basis of both summer and winter conditions. In order to evaluate the economical effectiveness of this kind of systems, a traditional system was simulated. Results of these sets of simulations show as the economical convenience of these systems, in the actual (end of 2005) Italian economical situation, is still quite uncertain, mainly for the high costs of parabolic solar collectors and of the diathermic oil. Nevertheless the introduction of the Energy Efficiency Certificates and the reduction of the costs of parabolic solar collectors, due to a higher market penetration, could bring these systems to a convenient breakeven.
