Note:
In this paper I shall take as my theme the mechanisms of funding UK university research and the close collaboration between engineering schools in universities and industry, particularly the aircraft engine and power companies. It is a very beneficial relationship for the partners. I have been particularly fortunate in having experienced this type of collaboration in the UK, in that I have Cambridge University and Rolls-Royce pedigrees.
