Collana: FM - 2004 Sorrento - Third International Symposium - Energy and Environment
Note:
Coal is the most abundant fossil fuel and the major primary energy source for large scale heat and electricity generation worldwide. Due to the anticipated growth in energy demand and despite of the present discussion about the global climate and the CO2-emission of predominantly fossil fuel conversion coal is still expected to play its important role for the foreseeable future. However, in order to comply with the European strategy for a sustainable future energy supply technological improvements are necessary to balance the future requirements with regard to supply security environmental acceptance and economical competitiveness. After a view at the energy situation and the power station development options for the future supply under the special boundary conditions prevailing in Europe will be discussed.
